The Last Day of Myself, 2024

‘The Last Day of Myself’,
3x5 m, watercolor, plants, sound art, performance,
2024, Salzburg Summer Academy

"The Last Day of Myself" is an immersive installation combining wallpaper painted with botanical watercolors, live plants, and sound art. The piece is rooted in a personal story of growing up with a mother suffering from a mental disorder, where her conversations with plants left a profound impact on me as a child. In moments of fear, I would hide in a room adorned with flower-patterned wallpaper. This project explores the psychological connection to botanical patterns—ubiquitous in their heritage and often evoking feelings of safety in the midst of chaos.

At the opening, I performed a piece reflecting on how this experience shaped me, using body-printing as a metaphor for camouflage in an unsafe environment. I pressed my body against a plant leaf, imprinting its form onto myself, symbolizing the way we merge with our surroundings to survive. "The Last Day of Myself" investigates the ways patterns protect, conceal, and provide emotional refuge, allowing us to reflect on the complexities of mental health and personal identity.
